Date: 1866, Jan., 7
Document Type: Letter
Content Summary: He asks again for a loan of £2 for 2 weeks. He had no chance of a private, confidential chat in Manchester, but he is now waiting for the beginning of Mr Henderson's engagement. Something may turn up in the meantime but he feels callous about England and has decided shortly to try his luck in America. He had rejected the idea when Howard Paul mentioned it, but has an appointment with Jarrett at the end of the week and if nothing comes of it will start on his own. He can get enough money to settle things ... This is just between them at present, but he will communicate when anything is settled. Please send him the money if possible.
Published: Daily Telegraph, 14.3.38.
Notes: The letter is described as being in a private scrapbook and the addressee is called "a friend", but might possibly be Christopher Bradshaw. Nothing came of the plan to go to America. Henry C. Jarrett, 1828-1903, was a successful American manager.
